Decisions surrounding Long Term Care for yourself or a loved one can often be difficult to make. A Care Coordinator can provide you with the support necessary to make informed decisions and find suitable accommodation. Continuing Care Services can only be initiated via telephone. The one number to call toll-free, in Nova Scotia, to connect with Continuing Care services is, 1-800-225-7225.
The Department of Health and Wellness has implemented significant changes to the way long term care is funded and how residents pay for long term care. Long-term care costs are shared by you, the resident, and the provincial government. You pay your accommodation costs and personal expenses and the Department of Health and Wellness pays your health care costs. The Department of Health and Wellness sets standard accommodation charges annually. Those who can pay the standard accommodation charge are not required to complete a financial assessment. Those who cannot pay the standard accommodation charge can apply to have their rate reduced through an income based financial assessment.
